Romantico has played at approximately two dozen film festivals, including Sundance,
Los Angeles, San Sebastian, Morelia, and Vienna Film Festival. It also screened as
part of Independents Night at Lincoln Center in New York. Romantico has won awards
and honors at Silverdocs (DC), the Latin American Film Festival (Holland),
and Bilan du Film (Paris).

At the 2006 Independent Spirit Awards, Romantico was nominated for two awards, Best Documentary and the Truer than Fiction award. The film was funded by the Sundance Documentary Fund, California Council for the Humanities, the Skirball Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, the Fleishhacker Foundation, Pacific Pioneer Fund, the Lucius and Eva Eastman Foundation, and the Hyde Foundation.
